The City of Mount Carmel employs one meter technician and uses an automatic meter reading (AMR) technology for all of our water meter system. The system automatically collects consumptions, diagnostics, and status data from the water meters and transmits the data to a collecting unit that is installed in the meter reading vehicle. This technology cut the manual read times down from 2 full time employees spending 20 days a month to manually read the system. To 1 Full time Meter Technician that conducts the monthly readings in 1 and a half days. The cost savings has allowed us to keep rates lower to the customers.
Other benefits of the system include leak detection allowing our department to notify the users they have a leak in their system. Another added benefit to the customer with this system is the ability for our meter technician to get data logs to help a customer pin point when the water was used.
Throughout each month our meter technician verifies data collection conducting followup data logs for customers that show a leak in their system. He also performs new water connection, and disconnections.
